Phuket proving popular with Russians
Thailand Property Report
The number of Eastern Europeans visiting Phuket has
risen by over 40 per cent since the tsunami, the assistant
director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Southern
Bureau has claimed. Speaking at a tourism seminar in
Phuket’s Rajabhat University faculty of management
science, Ranchuan said that Russians visitors were
arriving at a particularly fast rate and that the months
from October to March were the most popular. She
continued, “Given the considerable growth in Eastern
European tourists, the development of personnel in the
service industry is necessary. There’s a shortage of staff
proficient in the Russian language.” On average Eastern
European tourists stay in Phuket for 14 days and spend
around Bt4,500 per day.
