Yamu legal wrangle a ‘test case’ for coastal projects
by Robert Carry -
Thailand Property Report
The outcome of the investigation into the legality of
Cape Yamu´s proposed 39-berth Marina may set the bench
mark for future coastal development across Thailand after
Human Rights Commissioner Wasan Panich, who is leading the
investigation, said it had become a “test case”.
Wasan made the announcement during a public meeting in the
island´s Merlin Hotel, at which a number of locals spoke
both for and against the development, which upon
completion will take up 100.
“We are holding The Yamu marina project to be an example
for other new marinas yet to be built in Phuket,” said
Wasan “We are concerned about Phuket’s capacity to support
many marinas like this one and what effects construction
of such marinas will have.”
