Outrigger sets sail for Thailand

Outrigger Enterprises Group has announced that it has
been selected to manage a new luxury 400-room full service
hotel and mixed use resort being built in Phuket.
The West Sands resort, located on Mai Khao Beach along the
“unspoiled” northwest coast of Phuket, will feature the
new West Sands Outrigger Resort, Phuket hotel, 98 villas
and 336 condominiums, along with stand-alone restaurants
and a “world class” water park.
“Outrigger Hotels is a new brand to Asia,” said Darren
Edmonstone, the company´s vice president of Acquisitions
and Development. “We are resort specialists that offer a
unique solution to developers and owners alike. We are
owners of properties as well as managers and are therefore
sensitive to owners requirements.”
Although Outrigger is eager to bring its own style of
resort management to the Thai market, Edmonstone stressed
that the company aimed to create something original. “We
have set Brand Guidelines, however, we feel that each
property deserves its own identity and are very happy to
work with developers to create something unique.
Outrigger currently has operations in Hawaii, Australia,
Fiji, Guam and Bali and plans an Asian expansion which is
expected to bring a second Phuket project, one on Hainan
Island as well as further projects in Thailand and
Vietnam. The West Sands development however, was of
particular interest to Outrigger, “The West Sands Resort
held immediate attraction for us,” says Edmonstone. “It is
a project that enables us to showcase all our experience
in the various disciplines of what we do in one
development. The development is of superior quality and we
are in line with the developers vision. We consider West
Sands resort an exciting mixed use development and one
that will become a true destination in itself.”
The development team was equally happy with the
partnership: “West Sands offers a superb environment,
unmatched anywhere else on Phuket in terms of both
property and environment,” said Sir Terry Leahy, principal
shareholder of Central & City Developments. “We´re pleased
to have Outrigger as the manager of the hotel at West
Sands and look forward to a successful project backed by
Outrigger´s exemplary reputation and expertise, global
strategy, cutting edge technology and proven customer
service.”
In total, the company boasts a portfolio of over 42
properties with more than 11,000 rooms.
