Australian delegation visits Phuket

A second annual meeting of building industry experts
and delegates took place recently on Phuket.
Queensland Government Minister Robert Schwarten who is
also the Australian Minister for Public Works, Housing and
Information and Communication Technology hosted the
luncheon at The Catch Beach Club on Surin Beach.
The gathering was designed to give representatives from
Australia's Gold Coast and property industry leaders the
opportunity to compare notes and gather information on
what some of the principal companies in Australia are
doing in terms of prime development markets.
The lunch was attended by around 30 people from the
industry, many in the construction field. These included
The Chava, Jom Chang, Kata Gardens, Andara, Casuarina
Shores and World Construction. The CEO of Raimon Land,
Nigel Cornick also travelled from Bangkok to join the
meeting.
Larry Cunningham of The Chava said, "Australia's Gold
Coast has set a precedent in the building industry. It is
the fastest growing and selling market in Australia. There
is a lot that can be learned from the people involved."
Former Mayor of Brisbane, Sallyann Artkinson, who led a
team to investigate sustainable projects in Thailand,
focusing on development in the aftermath of natural
disasters, chaired a similar meeting of Australian
delegates last year. "Australia too can learn from
projects here, " he said. "What followed after the
tsunami, the cleanup and rebuilding, were all good
lessons. The Gold Coast saw hurricane Larry. The damage it
left behind cost billions of dollars and the rebuilding
process is very important."
The Australian delegates spent time in Bangkok and Phuket
before travelling on to Vietnam and eventually back to
Australia. Everyone in attnedance agreed the meeting was
very productive and it is hoped a similar gathering will
be repeated next year
